Cerloq began in the summer of 2025, managing apartments in Athens. Every checkout told the same story: the guests were gone, the door was locked, and the air conditioning was still running — sometimes for days. The smart-home devices on the market could report that. None of them would simply switch it off, and none could say afterwards what that had cost.
The numbers made the case. A Mediterranean rental runs its AC for six months a year at €0.30 or more per kilowatt-hour, and independent studies put the saving from AC control that follows the room at 17–30 %. Add the things a remote owner worries about — is someone inside who shouldn’t be, is the empty apartment quietly growing mould — and the product designed itself.
Cerloq One is the result: a single device that switches the AC off when the apartment is empty and proves what it saved, puts any AC on the owner’s phone, watches the property when it is armed and warns before mould takes hold. Designed in Amsterdam, built for the markets where AC is a cost line, not a luxury.
Everything in Cerloq is built for short-term rental hosts and property managers. We would rather be the obvious choice for one kind of property than an average choice for every kind.
No camera, no microphone, no live feed of who is in the room. Presence is sensed by radar and used by the device itself. Your guests are never the product. The empty apartment is.
Cerloq reports the AC hours it actually avoided and shows savings as honest ranges. When there is any doubt, it counts less. A figure that disagrees with your electricity bill is worse than no figure at all.

Embedded systems engineer with a background in connected-device firmware and real-time systems. Greek by origin, based in Amsterdam, and a short-term rental operator himself — the product started in the apartments he ran in Athens.
Cerloq is based in Amsterdam, where the hardware, firmware and cloud are developed in-house. Manufacturing and CE certification take place in the EU.
